Biography of Yvonne Moore
Yvonne Moore is a member of the Mackinac Odawa Band of American Indians. Yvonne is one of only a few female Native Americans with a master’s degree in clinical psychology earned from the Michigan School of Professional Psychology. She is also a graduate of Central Michigan University where she earned a bachelor degree in psychology. She has a strong experience in school psychology with over 40 years teaching in various school systems. Yvonne is a retired department chair of Human Services at Baker College. Proud mother of Brian Moore Director of North American Indian Association, the longest continually operated Indian in North America. 3 additional children and 10 grandchildren
Yvonne is currently a professor of humanities at the University of Phoenix where she teaches psychology, sociology, and philosophy at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Yvonne maintains a strong presence in the Native American community as a social rights and environmental activist. Most recently Yvonne participated in the activity on the Standing Rock Reservation as a Water Protector while promoting awareness and education concerning the issues of the Dakota Access Pipe Line. She also recently participated in a march in Washington D.C. in support of civil and social rights for Indigenous People.. Yvonne is also a participant and activist in the ongoing battle against racist and stereotyped “Indian” sport logos.
